AUS14- Woop Woop Fritattensuppe!
This post is pretty much all about yummy food. May want to grab a bowl of nuts or a sleeve of thin mints, depending on what kind of a person you are. :)
Our traditional dinners have progressed! Remember when I made those yummy burgers for everyone? Well this time it was Ingrid's turn and (since she is Norwegian) made tacos. I know it seems really odd but it is actually a big thing there! Ingrid legit eats tacos every Friday. Phrases are even made up for this. Her week goes like this: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, TacoFriday, Saturday, etc. I must say, these were the best tacos I have ever eaten, and I live much closer to Mexico than she. There is even a proper taco folding/eating technique. I, due to my obsession of all things green, just formed mine into a sort of taco salad. IT WAS SO YUM. thx Ing :*

3 points to whoever can read what that says
There is an area right by our accommodation, called Newtown, which is known for its multitude of Thai restaurants. We FINALLY made it there. I say finally with so much emphasis because we have been saying that "we really need to go eat here some day" since day one (almost 4 weeks ago). Some of these girls have actually been to Thailand! I only had one encounter with Thai my entire life and that was in Cali where I split the "honeymoon surprise" with Sarah. Good times, good times. I had Pad Thai with pork. I ate every single thing on that plate. I even ate some runaway tofu that had found its way into my mix. OH MY GOSH I almost forgot about this. Okay, we were given some "prawn chips" as we were seated. Y'all, it looked like flattened packaging peanuts. Everyone I was with gleamed with joy and grabbed one. I was like..ummm...ya no...not doing that. Prawn chips?! Are they actually made from prawn? Yes. I tried one just for the experience and can I just say that was an experience I wish I hadn't. Ohhhh, it was just awful. It tasted like what your sink smells like when you are de-veining shrimp. Good thing the Pad Thai was yum because that place needed to regain some points after those packaging peanuts!

So buzz feed came out with this article a while back that lists the top 14 milkshakes in Sydney, Aus. Sounds like a checklist to me :)

Nat, Vic, and I decided to try number one this past week. We used googlemaps because our designated direction lady (Ri) was not in attendance. This was our first of many troubles. The first of which was the fact that I was the directional leader. This is never a good idea. Google maps took us on what I'm pretty sure was the longest possible route to this location. What was supposed to be a 15 minute walk took at least 35. On the bright side, we were just getting more exercise before consuming something that probably contains enough calories for a small village. Side note: this place is located in the middle of nowhere. You can tell how much this place has gained in popularity since the article. It was originally a very small building but they have added seating outside in every nook and cranny possible. We had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated. The wait wasn't too bad but it caused us to also order the "big brekky" because we had just stared at everyone's yummy food the whole time. Y'all, the brekky was so good. Especially, perhaps, since it was 2pm. Doesn't breakfast always taste better when it isn't breakfast time? Is that just me? Anyways, it consisted of fried eggs, sausage, grilled haloumi (some cool cheese over here), ham, sourdough bread, happiness, grilled tomato, and mushrooms.

Going for it

all de boyz coming to da yard
Alright, back to the main topic, the milkshakes! I ordered the salted caramel option while the other girls both wanted to try the one in the article (nutella). Vic resorted to using the knife to scrape every last bit from the jar whereas Nat had a genuine struggle finishing hers. I could actually see the pain in her eyes every time she leaned in for another sip. What a trooper. By the time we were nearly finished, I looked over and a line had formed out the door and to the road. We even had an entertaining conversation happen right by us. Some guy that lived in the complex above this cafe was ABSOLUTELY LIVID that there were so many people here ALL THE TIME. He claimed it was preventing him from living peacefully and actually called the cops. He was not a jolly fella. Fame gets to some people, ya know? It was rather crazy. Errbody want dem milkshakes.

Worth the hype, for sure.
Are you drooling yet? This is the last one, I promise :)
It was Vic's turn for traditional dinner this week! Just for some background, she is from Austria. She really went all out. It was so kind of her. She really wanted us to try everything. We had a three course meal! I had her send me the names of everything we ate because when she told it to me, all I heard was jksalfwae dkla;fjdkla jeksavndsaewe. So, we began with Fritattensuppe. when she explained it to us as a pancake soup, i think we were all a bit hesitant. It is one of those things that you are glad someone was strange enough to make up this concoction because it is actually really delicious. I can best describe it as tasting like a bowl of comfort and grandma hugs.

shucks, should've brought the selfie stick
Next course was the famed Weiner Schnitzel. This girl looked like Bobby Flay when she was cooking up all this. All you need is a squirt of lemon on these puppies and you are good to go! With the schnitzel we also had potato salad. I don't really know how she made this but it was great. Much different from our version though.

Dessert was "Palatschinken". It looks similar to a pancake but it IS NOT A PANCAKE. **Vic made it very clear that it is a palatschinken and not a pancake or a crepe but its own separate thing. Toootally different. My palate is apparently not advanced enough to tell them apart but who needs to? It was joy on a plate.

Side note: at one point Ri and I started to smell gas and ran around frantically across the kitchen checking all of the stove knobs. We opened the windows, got seriously worried we were about to catch fire, and then looked over at Victoria and saw this. RIP plastic spoon.
